Sony's brand new top of the range models are seemingly dominating the news headlines recently. They are thin, they sport 200 Hz processors and in the context of the X4500 range, boast absolutely jaw dropping picture quality. However maybe it might actually be the austere but totally affordable V400 range that, during this era of global recession, folk will actually be thinking about nabbing for themselves.

not long ago along came the 37 inch 37V4000 and frankly we found it to be much better than first thought. So now let us focus on the the smaller second room 26 inch model, the Sony KDL-26v4000. It is not at all uncommon that smaller LCD TV screens in their range to be in the greatest part less well equipped than their bigger brothers, lets find out if this is the case in this example.

To look at, the KDL-26V4000 is perfectly admirable, it's shiney piano-black bezel and grey speaker are not the most beautiful features but are in no way an eyesore, the build quality though is certainly above the norm for a budget set.

Connectivity is acceptably adequate also. It comes with 3 HDMI connections as well as a Pc port and Integrated standard definition digital terrestrial tuner (MPEG-2, also receives analogue).

A USB port would have been great but is unfortunately missing, however considering the price, this isn't anything to change our minds.

By Sony's normal standards the features are somewhat limited, however as stated earlier, the low price must always be remembered. It does however boast Sony's Bravia Engine Video Processing and dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1

As far as the sound goes, it does have a feature that supplies Digital surround sound from only two front speakers with Virtual Dolby Surround and BBE ViVA sound technology.

The screen is HD ready as expected and has 1,366 X 768 resolution. It is unable to process 1080p at 24 fps, the feed that is preferred Blu-ray players to deliver, it just means that one has to alter the setting on the player to 1080i @ 60hz

All in all this set is fantastic for the price and should not be missed, it just goes to show that such a high feature set is becoming the standard now even in lower priced models.
